Pregnancy Announcement Box

When we found out we were going to be welcoming the newest addition to our family, I was beyond excited on coming up with a way to surprise our parents. This is going to be the first grand-baby on both sides of our family, officially giving our parents the title of Grandma and Grandpa! Because @imokura_md_’s parents and both our grandparents are overseas, we had to think of a way to to surprise them without being in person. Immediately I knew I wanted to do a surprise box of some sort but the question was, what to put inside?

I started searching the internet for inspiration and ideas. Some of my early contenders was an exploding confetti box or a flying butterfly cards, but the confetti would create too much of a mess and I didn’t know how well the butterfly cards would ship… Eventually I came across a baby announcement keepsake box on Etsy that I loved as a way to surprise them.

Pregnancy announcement wooden keepsake boxes in English and Mandarin — We had English in the boxes for our parents and Mandarin in the ones for our grandparents. Since little peanut could be early/late, I loved that we were able to customize and have the last/first 2 weeks of September and October.

So... what's in my box?

1. Wooden Keepsake Box

Found on Etsy, these pregnancy announcement boxes open up to reveal your special surprise. It was extremely easy to work with the seller on customizing and personalizing just what we wanted inside. Unfortunately, it seems this seller's shop is temporarily unavailable. I've included a link to her shops page if she reopens.

2. Announcement Photo

We had taken baby announcement photos, so I wanted to print those out to include. I printed them with Walmarts photo center as it was what was closest and easiest.

3. Baby Onesie

I also wanted to include a baby onesie because let’s be real, they’re adorable! I found this cute one on Etsy that says "Hello Grandma + Grandpa"

I can't wait to take a photo of little peanut in this onesie!

4. Baby Heartbeat Recorder

Since we were waiting to announce and majority of our family were overseas, I thought it would be very cute to include a little recording of the baby’s heartbeat in the box too. I found these heart shaped recorders on Amazon.

5. Peanut Hats

Lastly, ever since we found out about our baby, we had been calling it our little peanut and the nickname stuck. Both imokura_md_ and I wanted to incorporate something peanut related in the box but there’s a shortage of cute peanut toys. Since our dads love to golf, we considered ball markers or personalized golf balls for them. For the moms we though maybe a piece of jewelry would be a nice touch. Again, we couldn’t find any peanut themed jewelry we liked or thought was made well enough for such a special announcement. After more though and a lot more google searching we found the cutest peanut hats on Etsy! I reached out to the seller and they were able to personalize the hats as well. We decided then to order hats for everyone with their new titles so we could have our own little “peanut crew”.
