MTA Charity Fashion Show

Last summer I embarked on an adventure to a different side of pageants. I volunteered to be a committee member and pageant coach for the 2018 Miss Taiwanese American Pageant. The first time I participated in the pageant was already life changing, who knew it could do it again?

Working behind the scenes I got to experience firsthand all the hard work that actually went into putting everything together. I was blessed to have the opportunity to work with an amazing team and an even more amazing group of contestants.

Hands down in all my years of pageant experience, this has been my favorite group of girls to work with. I loved watching the transformation of the ladies, from the first day at orientation to the blossoming beauties at pageant night. They’ve extended beyond the typical pageant sisters to an all-encompassing support and friend group. In a typically competitive environment, it’s heartening to see the ladies develop, what I hope to be, lifelong friendships.

For the past few months I've had the honor of helping the Miss Taiwanese American Pageant choreograph and coordinate a fashion show for their annual project. It's been so much fun working with these talented ladies. Ying (2018 Second Princess) helped curate and design an entire line inspired by Taiwanese Aboriginal culture for the ladies to wear.

We also had some very special guests. For the fashion show, we invited kids from the Foundation for Disabled Youths to join us. Our goal was to raise awareness for the Taiwanese culture and minority groups while simultaneously showing beauty is found from within. The kids we worked with were beautiful inside and out and had such vivacious personalities.

Rehearsals with FFDY kids

We spent an afternoon working with them, teaching them the catwalk formations and the damce section. It was so much fun teachin them! The kids made us laugh with their enthusiasm and sillyness. They weren't shy at all and were absolutely fabulous strutting down the runway and striking their poses. When we got to the dance portion, they all picked it up very quickly too!

Unfortunately due to prior plans, I was unable to actually participate or be there the day of the show. Everyone rocked it on stage though! Watching the video, I was proud of all of them and the hard work they put into making the show a success. Special shoutout to Ying for the beautiful collection she designed, to Hilary for all the help coordinating with FFDY, and to the all girls for working hard in practice and memorizing the formations and dance in such a short time.

Take a peak at our practices below!

As always,

Travel by my side as I take you along through my life and around the world.
